The Canada Crescenta Democratic Club has endorsed two candidates–Dan Jeffries and Ian Cataldo Mirisola–for the Governing Board of the La Canada Unified School District. Jeffries is a lawyer and Assistant Supervisor of the Metropolitan Branch the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office. Mirisola, a 2008 LCHS grad, is a 2013 graduate of Harvard University, with an A.B. in Government.
At the September 15 meeting of Democratic Club, president Jerry Reynolds introduced five of the eight candidates running for Governing Board. By the by-laws of the organization, endorsements must be confined to registered Democrats and are only announced for candidates who ask for an endorsement. School board positions are non-partisan. Voters will choose three members of the Governing Board in the November 5 election.
Dan Jeffries reported that his interest in the schools relate to his five children–from a kindergartner at Paradise Canyon to a recent UCLA graduate. He also has a strong history of community service which began with working as an Emergency Medical Technician while going to UCLA, being a 9-1-1 dispatcher, serving on the Olympic Organizing Committee during the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, and a long career prosecuting DUI offenses.
Ian Mirisola began college intending to study medicine but was encouraged to switch to government following an introductory political science class. He reported being supportive of the Common Core curriculum, is motivated ‘to serve” and is planning to go to law school.
